Lucknow civic body proposes 30-40% hike in house tax

LUCKNOW: Lucknow Municipal Corporation has proposed 30-40% hike in house tax of commercial and residential properties depending on their size and location in Kaiserbagh, which will be the first to be developed under the Smart City scheme.

Additional municipal commissioner P K Srivastava said the proposal will be presented in the next LMC House meeting scheduled on March 28-29. The additional tax will be imposed for providing and maintenance of the smart services in the entire Kaiserbagh through latest technology, besides upgrading basic amenities like road, water, sanitation and power supply.

“Once the draft is approved by the House, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for overseeing the Smart City implementation in city will be formed.

The SPV will conduct a survey of the number of households and commercial properties and evaluate their increased tax according to the area,” said Srivastava.

After losing in the first round last month, the LMC is now gearing up for the second round scheduled in April in which it is sure to get selected for the scheme. The proposal drafted for the previous round is being enhanced by adding various civic and transport services being implemented by other departments such as PWD, LESA and Jal Nigam. The riverfront project will also be added in the fresh proposal.
