BENGALURU: Employees of CiscoIndia who need to care for their dependents during times of illness can avail themselves of sick leave, under a revamped policy rolled out earlier this month.
The American technology company has provision for 12 days of sick leave a year for its employees. “Our data over the past few years has shown that the sick leave is not used fully.”
“Often we were finding that employees would end up taking paid or casual leave if they were required to care for ill family members, with their own sick leave quotas lapsing at the end of the cycle,” Seema Nair, director of HR, Cisco India and SAARC, told ET. Under the changed policy, she said, employees can now claim days from their sick leave quota if they require time off to care for an elder, a spouse, a partner or a child.
The revised leave policy also includes an extension to the previous allowance formaternity leave. The company has doubled the paid maternity leave to 24 weeks. Employees returning from maternity leave will also be allowed to work flexibly as and when required.
It is also looking to revisit its paternity leave policyand is expected to make an announcement in this regard soon. Cisco already allows employees to take paid time off for 40 hours a year to take up constructive social work and give back to society.
